All ages Enjoy Comedy Magic

Two weeks back I did four shows on one day.

The morning magic show was for the school aged child care at the Salvation Army in St. Paul. The director said the show was wonderful and the kids had a great time. It was evident by their faces throughout the show. I like that look of startled amazement that happens after one of the tricks catches the person by surprise.  Magic is amazing.

Later that same day I did three programs for elderly at the Ecumen Parmly Life Points senior care center. These folks were so fun. Many were dressed up in their Halloween hats. They enjoyed joining in and being a part of the show. They remember the classic TV variety shows such as Ed Sullivan, Sonny and Cher, the tonight Show with Johnny Carson. On those programs many variety performers such as myself brought laughs to audiences across America.  So they really enjoy seeing the the comedy and amazing magic tricks in person.

Most of these residents were in wheelchairs, and that is no problem as I brought the tricks right to them. I would pass out ropes to be examined before one stunt, or I would have them hold props and even one is decked out with a star covered cape and magic top hat and then becomes the magician for the vanishing bottle trick. It is very fun, and I love to see the smiling faces and hear the laughter as the tricks unfold. One trick they all enjoyed participating in was when I strolled through the crowd and pulled silver dollars from their ears and elbows.  I enjoyed seeing their gasps of amazement as I filled my bucket with coins.

All ages enjoy seeing a comedy magic show in St. Paul or Minneapolis.  I always have such a happy feeling as I leave a show.  So many people come up after to say it was great.  I just do my best and strive for excellence. For the younger children’s shows, I stand by the exit as the children leave the show and wave goodbye and give them a souvenir from the show. It is fun to see their smiling faces as they say, “Wow, how did you do that?” “my favorite trick was when you…” or “That was so cool.”

For the senior groups I love to walk through the audience and say goodbye to each person. Their faces light up and they offer such nice compliments.  I want them to know I appreciate them and that I was glad when they helped with the various tricks. I’ll ask, “How did you make that scarf disappear? Or, how did you make that newspaper trick work?”  I want everyone at the senior care facility to know that they are special and yet some how they pour their kindness and love back on me and I leave feeling great.

The director of activities at Parmly Care Center wrote a nice letter a week later.

“Thank you so much! I heard some rave reviews!!” – Shannon Y.

Tonight I do my third appearance over the past 6 years for the Senior Group at Saint Alphonsus Church in Brooklyn Center. I look forward to it as they are so much fun.

Magic Minnesota Seminar a Success!

Steve Kissell and crew put on a dynamic seminar last weekend in Minnesota for magicians and entertainers.  Many professional magicians showed up to study and improve their skills. Many classes were presented by a Professional Staff of Family Entertainers.

This conference is now celebrating 18 big years of “Leading The Way To Laughter and Learning!” The event featured 14 entertaining and educational classes plus 6 Break out sessions. The participants had opportunities to work in small groups to learn several new tricks and routines!Steve Kissell taught several newspaper magic effects, Brad Roberts taught clever coin magic and Norm Barnhart  taught several of his inventions including a magical flower production, an original origami dollar trick plus his dollar turning into a $20 trick.  Norm also shared his trick that involves a jumbo penny.

The Saturday night Magic show was hosted by magical M.C. MagicNorm who presented two 10 minute sets of comedy magic and also interspersed the show with bits of business including having an audience member learn how to do the tablecloth pull! and wad a funny set by Steve Kissell. The contestants for the 2010 America’s Funniest Magician Contest competed and received trophies. Rochester magician Greg won the first place trophy.

A dynamic stage show on Friday night was excellently hosted by M.C. Penne Peterson, a Minnesota Speaker and trainer kept the show moving with her witty barbs and comic stunts..

The Friday eventing show featured, Brad Roberts, known as B-Rad from Las Vegas. Brad’s interactive show was a delight to the audience. He performs at a Casino Resort Every Weekend in Las Vegas with a very popular show that has run now for over a year.  This is very good for Vegas and it looks like he will continue to play to full houses for weeks and years to come.

Comedy magician Norm Barnhart brought several of his original routines and had the audience laughing with his comedy magic with a dollar that changed to a $20, his original hot dog trick and his mind reading chicken routine.  Norm also did manipulations magic with appearing balls and a very comical floating ball illusion.

Also featured on the Friday night show was Jeff Russ. Jeff is a very busy magician known as, Mr Magic is from Louisville, KY.. Jeff performs over 600 shows a year. He presented a magical routine with invisible cards and had the audience amazed and kept the crowd in stitches with his routine with a snake in the basket! The audience loved him and it is no wonder that in 2008 he won THE BEST OF LOUISVILLE AWARD for CHILDRENS ENTERTAINERS. Jeff also won the award for Best Birthday Party Magician in 2005, 2006 and 2007 as voted on by the readers of the Kentuckiana Family Magazine. Also on this entertaining show was comical magician Fred Baisch from Twin Cities Magic and Costume Company in St. Paul, MN. Fred blew the audience away with his comedy magic. His comic approach with colored light bulbs, crazy props and boxes that fit inside boxes in amazing ways. It was an evening of magical fun for everyone.

B-Rad from Vegas came back and closed the show with his witty and wild comedy magic.

St Paul Winter Carnival Parade – Veteran’s Flag Honor Guard

The St Paul Winter Carnival is in full swing and the big Parade is this weekend.  Veteran from all over Minnesota lead the parade with their Flag Honor Guard.  We salute our veterans and their contribution to making America free. After the parade they will meet for refreshments and a VFW in St. Paul and I have the pleasure of entertaining for this distinguished group. I have presented Comedy and Magic for many Veteran’s groups throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin and they are always a receptive and fun audience.

Over the years I have also presented my comedy magic show several times for our Veterans who live at the Minnesota Veteran’s Home.  I enjoy the interaction as the people volunteer to help with the comedy card tricks or the other magic tricks.  The staff are very kind and they they serve the Vets with care and concern.

Over the years I’ve entertained at Landmark Center nine years for the St Paul Winter Carnival.  Also I’ve appeared at the family tent with my kid’s magic show at Harriet Island for the Winter Carnival.
