Congratulations WordPress

Joy Victory reports in her blog that WordPress, com has now passed 200,000,000 posts.   This is an impressive number of posts and I am thankful to be part of the WordPress team.  This has been a great opportunity to keep my clients and friends up dated on the little business of mine that is part of show business.

WordPress.com is a very easy to use launchpad for writers and bloggers. The ease of adding media and photos is very helpful. I am able to get the news and information out there and to then get on with the rest of life.

Thank you WordPress for your excellence.

A photo Joy sent after I won an award

Joy Payne wrote to say that she really enjoyed my comedy DVD that shares some secrets of magic. She said “thank you, too, for the DVD. You are brilliant. This material is both simple and WONDERFUL.  Sincerely & Magically Yours,”  Joyce “JOY” Payne Preseident Elect of the W.C.A. Entertainer’s organization.

I am encouraged by the kindness of people around me and hope to bring some magical fun to your next special event.

June Jubilee Family Festival

I had a great time on Saturday entertaining for the June Jubilee Family Event at a church in Lino Lakes. The cool weather and warm, friendly people made the event a fun success.

They had a silent auction for charity and that raised a good amount. I picked up a couple nice items. A silent auction always adds to the revenues of a charity event. The pastor’s daughter and my daughter hit it off and had a blast with the fun games and activities.

Make your next event extra special with comedy, magic and fun.  MagicNorm.com

Crazy Daze

My schedule is thankfully full and it has kept me cruising like crazy for past two weeks.  The High School Lock-in graduation parties have keep me running at full speed and on little sleep.

Last night I entertained at the Dakota Fitness Center at the Mystic Lake Casino. This is my 4th year with this particular school and I had a blast.  The students were so engaged and laughing like crazy at the entertainment. I especially enjoy doing a few mind reading type magic tricks as the reaction can be quit fascinating.  it is fun to see the high school students jaws drop at the amazing magic illusions.  They know it is a trick, but they have not a clue and that elicits a  strong reaction.

The Dakota Fitness Center is a great place for this type of event.  There is a huge basketball court and racket ball courts.  the inflatable company was able to set up several huge games in the gym and the students had fun bouncing in the huge games.

I love to make people laugh and I look forward to bringing laughter to your event. I tailor the presentation to the age group. Check it out at MagicNorm.com

Remembering Comedy Magic Great – Ali Bongo

Comedy Magician - ALI BONGO

Thank You for the Laughter Ali Bongo 1929-2009

Ali Bongo was one of the world’s funniest magicians. His act was based on his character, “The Shriek of Araby.”  He has had me in stitches many times over the years. His zany comic style coupled with his original approach make for a magical feast for the eyes.

It is reported that Ali Bongo suffered a stroke just before he was about to present a lecture in Paris during the last week of January. Complications made things worse until he passeds away on March 8, 2009.

He was born William Oliver Wallace in Bangalore, India on December 8, 1929, and grew up in Kent, England.

He was a wildly funny entertainer and a creator of many unusual tricks and illusions.  He marketed his first invention at age 16. Among his many inventions was his variation of the Lu Brent “Growing Hat”. He wrote columns which appeared in “The Magic Circular” over the years. I also enjoyed his column in the Magic Magazine for the Society of American Magicians – M.U.M. He wrote several books with his amazing inventions.  I remember the amazing blooming bush trick that he published in The Bongo Book (1966). He also wrote Be a Magician (1979), and Ali Bongo’s Book of Magic (1980).

Ali Bongo had his own TV series featuring children’s magic and was the presenter of the Ali Bongo’s Cartoon Carnival which featured himself and his assistant Oscar. It aired on UK TV BBC1 on Saturdays between October 23, 1971, and December 18, 1971, a total of nine episodes. Bongo was featured in an episode of Children’s TV show Rainbow and appeared in the science-fiction show The Tomorrow People in the serial “Revenge of Jedikiah”. He also acted as the magical advisor to 70’s cult TV show in the UK, Ace of Wands.

Ali was a magic consultant for many TV shows and musical programs for B.B.C. TV stars David Nixon, Paul Daniels and others. Ali was a consultant along with David Berglas for the magic that is seen in the movie Casino Royale that starred Orson Welles.

Ali Bongo was a past president of the I.B.M. Ring and a winner of the prestigious British Ring Shield in 1964; The Magic Circle “Magician of the Year” Award in 1972; the Academy of Magical Arts “Best Lecturer of the Year” Award in 1975, and; the David Berglas Award in 1991. The Academy of Magical Arts presented Ali Bongo with a Masters Fellowship in 1993 and also that year won the 1993 Carlton Award for Comedy. On September 8, 2008 and was elected President of The Magic Circle.

Thank you for the laughter Mr Bongo.

Thanks for the Kind Words

I strive for excellence in what I do. I feel I let myself down and don’t always achieve the high standards I set for myself. Yet I enjoy getting feedback on the show and appreciate the kind words such as the note received after a recent High School Lock -In show.

The Entertainment Chair of the event wrote, “Lots of loud laughter. The kids loved him.”

I have worked this school for 9 years now and they are setting up a return engagement for next year.  I am thankful that their event was a success and I strive to contribute 100%.

Congratulations Class of 2010!

High Schools across Minnesota and Wisconsin are sending their graduating class out into the world with one last party together.  Last night I entertained for the graduating Class of  Minneapolis High School at the Chaska Community Center.

The Chaska Community Center offers a swimming pool, racket ball courts, basketball courts and ice skating.  They also have a huge indoor soccer field and this is where I entertained the crowd of around 400 students.  This is my 5th time entertaining this group and they are getting set to book me again for next year’s party.

It is exciting to be a part of the all night Lock in event.  The students are charged up and ready for some fun.  Another feature that was brought in was the Ace High Casino Company. This group provides live casino action for the students to enjoy.  They have a great staff and nice tables for play. Ace High does casino parties for company events and also on the Mississippi River and Lake Minnetonka cruise ships. aceentertainment.com

Two nights ago I had a show for a High School Lock-in at the Brunswick Zone in Blaine. This great facility offers bowling, laser tag, and tons of  newest video games.  The party planners also brought in photo booths, henna tattoo artists, hair stylists and a strolling magician.

My comedy stage show went on early in the morning and the crowd was very enthusiastic and laughed a lot. The parents and students commented very positively after the show.  I love to make people laugh and have fun together at their special events. MagicNorm.com
